Molly D. Davis "Wine Running From the Vine" 9" x 18" Watercolor

Please join Saks Galleries Cherry Creek in an extraordinary day of learning and creating from one of the top teachers at Art Students League of Denver, Molly D. Davis.

An award-winning artist in watercolor and oil, Molly will spend the day discussing insightful and useful techniques to apply to your own paintings.  If you are a patron of the arts, please join us and get to know Molly personally.

Molly says of teaching in a recent interview, "Teaching to me helps me transcend the ordinary and cull the imagination of a diverse group of people who want to learn to paint.  Nothing is more fun, than to be standing by a student when they first understand how to paint a flower, after speaking about the anatomy of a leaf so they completely understood its translucent quality."

Molly says, "It's not hard to paint  - it's harder to learn what not to paint."

Christie "Morning Song I"  8.5 x 9 pastel

Jane Christie remarks on her latest paintings available at Saks Galleries, "I was inspired to paint my little bird friends that come every morning to perch in the woven branches of the large bush outside my breakfast nook window.

Christie "Journey Into Late Afternoon" 9 x 12 pastel

Jane says of this painting, "A drive with my sister through the countryside led to this tree lined road with the sun beginning to set.   I said, “Stop, I have to paint this.”  It was so inviting.

Christie "Red Tulips" 10 x 8 pastel

And of the still life, Jane says,"I loved capturing the light that surrounded these red tulips."

Jane Christie has been an active artist since she attended the art school at the Atlanta High Museum of Art.  At the University of Georgia, Jane was working toward a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Home Economics, but her love of painting drew her to the art curriculum instead.  Her focus shifted to attending as many art classes as her major would allow.

Today her passion for painting continues. She has studied with great masters such as Albert Handel, Doug Dawson and Kevin Wechbach.

"We never know what moment will seize us and cling to us - a moment of peace and tranquility. Capturing that moment inspires us all."

Salge, "Gallatin" 29" H Bronze, Edition of 12

What is Lost Wax Process?

Wayne Salge uses a traditional process to create his bronze sculptures, a process that has been used since the third millennium.

This method is also called, cire-perdue, a method of metal casting in which a molten metal is poured into a mold that has been created by means of a wax model or form.  Once the form is made, the wax model is melted and drained away.  A hollow core can be effected by the introduction of a heat-proof core that prevents molten metal from totally filling the mold.

Please join us as we explore and learn about this ancient process and how Wayne Salge creates his award-winning bronzes.

Navajo, Ganado Red Weaving at Saks Galleries - April 12 and 13 Denver, Colorado

Ganado Red Textiles have long been coveted by collectors of
Navajo weavings.

Add to or start your collection from Saks Galleries Cherry Creek now.

The small village of Ganado is located in Arizona and is part of the Navajo Nation.  In 1878, Don Lorenzo Hubbell opened his first trading post, which served the Navajo community offering groceries, horse tack and the like. Hubbell encouraged the community’s weavers to produce high quality textiles and marketed them to buyers across the United States.

“Ganado Red” is a very distinctive deep red dye used in these traditional weavings and is set against the natural wool colors.  A black or dark border is usually present and the reds are often offset by grays and white inner designs. The textiles incorporate zigzag lines, diamond triangles and crosses.
