Gordon Brown New Works "America The Beautiful" Exhibit at Saks Galleries Cherry Creek Denver Colorado

Gordon Brown "Whispering Lights" 36 x 38 oil
Gordon Brown grew up in Grand Junction, Colorado and still lives nearby. Ensconced in his century-old home shaded by peach and apricot trees, Brown finds peace and inspiration in this bucolic oasis. From the balcony of his studio at the back of the property, Brown can survey the imposing Bookcliffs mountain range.

Brown made his first foray into art when he bought a set of oil paints while in high school. Although he had not painted until then, two of his oils won best of show and first place, respectively, in a high school art contest. This early recognition sparked his interest in art and his desire to pursue a career as an artist. Brown also received encouragement from several established artists in the area. Shortly after graduating from high school, he was introduced to Mark Rohrig, who invited Brown to his one-man show in Aspen, Colorado. From this experience in the professional art world, Brown learned that it was possible to earn a living as a painter.

Another influence has been the Tonalist painters of the 19th century. Like these artists, Brown considers it his "responsibility as a painter to record and reveal the natural beauty of the landscape as faithfully as possible." Therefore, he spends a great deal of time in the field studying his subject matter. The photos and small oil studies he does on site are just a reference, however, and bear little resemblance to the canvases he ultimately produces.

Gordon Brown will be a featured artist in the American Art Invitational - Top 100 Artists opening November 2012 at Saks Galleries Cherry Creek.

"American Beauty" 24 x 18 oil

Skye Mason' Skye's, atypical approach to the canvas has a romantic quality layering the oils while utilizing dramatic colors to carefully display thick, visible strokes of the brush. Reflective light, mode and technique are qualities to be discovered in her florals and figuratives.

"Morning Light" 18 x 24 oil

Stacey PetersonColorado landscape artist remarks,"I love waking up before the sun rises on a camping trip. I make a cup of coffee and bundle myself up, then sneak outside to watch the sunrise. While the world is still quiet, I'm shivering and waiting for the first rays of morning light to bathe the top of the divide in golden light. I sit there as the light marches down the mountains and across the land until it reaches my toes."

David Gray's "In Memoriam" A Striking Tribute to Americans Lost

America the Beautiful
now through July 28, 2012
Saks Galleries Cherry Creek

David Gray "In Memoriam" 18 x 32 oil

Historian's will appreciate the bugle, revolver and saber - all of which come from the Civil War era. The symbolism of the broken egg is for rebirth or new birth.  The flag is modern.  David says he took artistic license and exposed a little of the red in the folded flag and pray none take offense to the improperly folded flag. His desire was to express tribute to the fallen Americans and the freedom they protected. The animal hide is of a "Roosevelt Elk", a symbolic importance - a purely North American species. Please visit the gallery in Cherry Creek to view this painting.

David Gray acquired a strong foundational education in art while obtaining his BFA from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. His art education has continued with independent and occasional formal studies in pictorial expression and oil painting. The resulting work reveals a personal and contemporary expression of beauty and order which pays homage to the Classical Tradition in its craftsmanship.
