New Work! William Acheff at Saks Galleries

William Acheff, Full Moon at Zuni
Full Moon at Zuni, oil, 6 x 8 inches

William Acheff is known for his life like perfection portrayed in his realism paintings.  Acheff's still-life compositions combine historical and cultural artifacts of the Southwest.

William Acheff was born in Anchorage, Alaska in 1947 and has been living in Taos, New Mexico since 1973. "I paint Indian objects," he says, "because I relate to them, maybe because I have some Indian blood and because I was close to my grandmother, but that's not the point.  It's the ethnic quality of the artifacts.  There's a purity in them.  Nothing's manufactured by machine. There sits a pot. The whole mood of what went into making that pot is a story, and that's what I want to capture."

Acheff has shown in major Western art shows: Western Heritage Sale, Artists of America, National Academy of Western Art, The Hubbard Show, Prix de West, Autry Masters of the American West. He is a two time Prix de West Award winner (1989, 2004) and received the Masters of America West Purchase Award in 1998.

Tuscan Red, pastel, 12 x 16 inches

Deborah Bays earned a Bachelor of Arts in Costume Design for the Theatre at the University of Texas at Austin then went onto complete a Master of Arts in Scenography at Purdue University. She settled in Denver and for twenty five years designed costumes and sets for regional repertory theaters.

After so many years of making art as a member of a team she longed for a more personal expression. This led her to study drawing and painting with many fine artists and teachers at the Art Student’s League of Denver. Her favorite medium is pastel and her favorite subject is light revealing form and conversely form revealing light.

Her work has been featured in Southwest Art and The Pastel Journal.  She has been awarded Master Pastelist status with the Pastel Society of America.

William Berra grew up in York, Pennsylvania. While in high school he attended college classes at the York Academy of Art, then enrolled in the Maryland Institute of Fine Art. After college Berra traveled the country painting en plein air until he was stranded in Santa Fe during the snowy winter of 1976 and, finding both the landscape and light exquisite, realized that he had found his home.

His vibrant European and American landscapes, beach scenes, figurative works, and still lifes attest to a talent that appreciates the beauty existing all around us. A William Berra painting is full of light, color, and the joy of living.

William Berra’s work appears in private and public collections throughout the world. Press includes articles in American Art Collector, Western Art Collector, Southwest Art and a discussion of his work in the books Art Journey America Landscapes: 89 Painters’ Perspectives, Art Journey: New Mexico and Sketchbook Confidential.
